Cambodia Overture 8 Days

This 8-day overture tour in Cambodia starts in Battambang, a quiet town near the Thai Border. The town is filled with colonial buildings and has a rugged charm. You will then cruise down to Siem Reap in the Tonle Sap Lake and spend 3 days there visiting hidden alcoves of monuments such as Angkor Wat, Bayon, Banteay Srei and Ta Phrom. The tour is ended in Phnom Penh with visit to its must-see sites National Museum, Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, and of course, the moving Tuol Sleng Museum and the Killing Fields.

Day 1: Bangkok/Poipet/Battambang (L, D, G)

You will be picked up at Poipet Cambodia’s border after the immigration procedure and driven to Sisophon for lunch in a local restaurant.

After that, you will continue to Battambong Province (around 2 hours). On arrival, check in hotel and have free time at leisure. You will spend the night in a hotel in Battambang.

Day 2: Battambang (B, L, D, G)

After breakfast at hotel, you will drive to the Phnom Bannon Hill and climb the 337 steps (80 m high) to reach the temple. You will visit the Prasat Bannon temple from XII century and enjoy the outstanding view over the surrounding plains. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant in Battambang.

In the afternoon, you will drive to Wat Ek Phnom then proceed to visit the Wat Ek Phnom, a nice 11th century temple which offers a very peaceful atmosphere in the countryside, surrounded by trees and lily ponds. Next to the temple, you can see the Wat Ek Phnom Pagoda which has one of the most complete collections of Buddhist wall and ceiling paintings in all Cambodia. You will spend the night in Battambang.

Day 3: Battambang/Siem Reap by boat (B, L, G)

This morning, you will boad a private speedboat from Battambang to Siem Reap in the Tonle Sap Lake. The trip will lasts for 6-7 hours passing wonderful landscape and the daily life along the river banks. Lunch will be served on board. Arriving in Siem Reap, you will be transferred to your hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Siem Reap (B, L, G)

After breakfast, you’ll begin witha visit to Angkor Thom, starting with the Bayon. Your next visit will be to the Elephant and Leper Emperor Terraces, followed by the Baphoun Temple, which is now nearing the end of an eight-year multi-million dollar restoration programme. You’ll then visit Ta Prohm, strangled by massive tree roots and typical of the condition of the whole complex when it was discovered in 1860 by French naturalist Henri Mouhot, and Neak Pean, a Himalayan-style lake and sanctuary.

In the afternoon, you’ll explore Angkor Wat itself, the largest, and for most people, the most impressive temple in the complex. Your overnight accommodation will be in Siem Reap.

Day 5: Siem Reap (B, L, G)

In the morning, an hour drive will take you to Banteay Srey Temple which displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art with some of the most beautiful, deep and intricate carvings. You’ll return to your hotel with en-route visit to a local family that makes sugar palm. The rest of the day will be free. Your overnight stay will be in Siem Reap.

Day 6: Siem Reap/Phnom Penh (B, G)

Free time until transferred to the airport for noon flight to Phnom Penh. When you arrive at Pochentong airport in Phnom Penh, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel. Day 7: Phnom Penh/the ‘Killing Fields’ (B, G)

In the morning, you will visit the Tuol Sleng Museum, which was originally built as a secondary school named Tuol Svay Prey High School in 1960, then the Khmer Rouge converted this into a torture and interrogation centre to extract ‘confessions’ of anti-government sentiment. The museum was established in 1979 and opened to the public to recall of the victims as tragic testimony in Cambodia history.

After that, you will visit the so-called ‘Killing Fields’ or the Choeung Ek Execution area which is 15km southwest of the city centre. The exhumed skulls of some 8,000 souls, arranged by sex and age, are displayed behind glass panels in the Memorial Stupa, which was erected in 1988. After that, you will be driven back to the city centre and have the rest of the day free. You will spend the night in Phnom Penh.

Day 8: Phnom Penh departure (B, G)

Free time until transferred to the airport for departure flight. Tour ends.
