The Second-to-none Angkor Wat Temple Complex and it surroundings

Day 1: Shihanoukville/Siem Reap (G)

On arrival in Shihanoukville Port, you will be greeted and driven to the airport to board a short flight to Siem Reap (will be re-opened on 14th December, 2011). On arrival at the airport, you will be met by our guide and driven to visit the Angkor Temple complex, of which Angkor Wat is a key element. You’ll explore Angkor Wat itself, the largest, and for most people, the most impressive temple in the complex. As dusk nears, a walk to the summit of Phnom Bakheng Hill will afford a panorama of the whole complex lit by the rays of the setting sun, weather permitting of course. Your overnight accommodation will be at the Le Meridient Hotel in Siem Reap.

Day 2: Explore Siem Reap (B, L, G)

After an early breakfast, you’ll begin with a visit to Angkor Thom, starting with the Bayon, a bizarre structure of several architectural changes reflecting a switch from Hinduism (the foundations) to Buddhism (the superstructure). You’ll then visit Ta Prohm, strangled by massive tree roots and typical of the condition of the whole complex when it was discovered in 1860 by French naturalist Henri Mouhot.

After that, an hour drive will take you to Banteay Srey Temple which displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art with some of the most beautiful, deep and intricate carvings. You’ll return to your hotel with en-route visit to a local family that makes sugar palm. You’ll then be driven to Siem Reap River and Wat Athovea. There, you’ll embark for a boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake, a natural reservoir that partly controls the level of floods in the Mekong Delta, and visit Kompong Phluk floating fishing village en-route.

You will finish your day with a visit the ‘Chantiers Ecoles – Les Artisans d’Angkor’ which provides training to young Cambodians in an effort to revive the ancient Khmer traditions of stone carving and wood sculpting. Your overnight accommodation will be at the Le Meridient Hotel in Siem Reap.

Day 3: Siem Reap – Fly to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) (G)

In the morning, you will be driven to the airport for a morning flight to Saigon where your car will be waiting on arrival (and guide you with Ho Chi Minh City tour). Tour ends.
